# Tasks

Tasks in WIZE track work for you and your team. Every task has a name, assignee, due date, board, description, and status. The thing that makes WIZE tasks different from a standalone to-do app: WIZE itself can create, update, and complete tasks from chat.

## Creating a task

- Click **New Task** at the top of the Tasks tab.
- Or ask WIZE in chat to create one.

## Task properties

- **Name** — a short title.
- **Assignee** — anyone in your Organization.
- **Due Date** — the date the task should be done by.
- **Board** — a grouping like "Spring Appeal" or "Q4 Major Gifts", useful for filtering. New tasks land on the **Default** board if you don't pick one. Creating a board asks for its **goal** — what done looks like — which WIZE uses to keep its help on that board pointed at the outcome; you can edit the goal later from Manage Boards (the pencil next to the board).
- **Description** — supports multiple editors typing at once (last edit wins).
- **Status** — **Not Started**, **In Progress**, **In Review**, or **Done**.

## Privacy

Tasks are visible to everyone in your Organization by default. You can make a task **private** so it's visible only to you — open the task's three-dot ⋮ menu and choose **Make Private**; choose **Make Public** to share it again. Only the person who made a task private can make it public. (Documents, spreadsheets, designs and dashboards can be restricted too, but through a different control — see [Documents → Privacy](/help/documents/).)

## Views

Tasks can be shown as a list, as a **board view** with a column per status, or on a **calendar** by due date.

## Filtering and sorting

The Tasks tab has a robust filter bar. Selections persist per Organization.

**Filter by:**

- **Status** — All, Todo (anything not yet done), or Done
- **Board** — multi-select, includes "Unassigned"
- **Assignee** — multi-select, includes "Unassigned". Set to yourself for a "My Tasks" view.
- **Due Date** — Overdue, Due this week, Due next week, No due date, Has due date, or custom date range

**Sort by:** Name, status, board, assignee, due date, or created date — ascending or descending.

## What WIZE can do with tasks

WIZE has tools for working with tasks directly from chat. It can create a single task, update an existing one (due date, assignee, status, description), mark tasks done, search the task list, and generate batches of tasks from a workflow.

## When WIZE works on tasks on its own

Beyond chat, WIZE can pick up tasks and work them **autonomously** — researching, drafting, and moving them forward without you prompting each step.

Every plan includes a **daily limit** on how many tasks WIZE will start on its own each day. Today's usage shows in the indicator at the top of the app, and it resets at midnight Eastern Time.

A few things worth knowing about how that count works:

- **A task counts the moment WIZE first works on it that day — even a little.** You don't have to wait for it to finish; starting the work is what draws down the limit.
- **It only ever counts once per task per day.** If WIZE comes back to the same task later that day, that's free.
- **Follow-ups, subtasks, and replies never count.** Only a brand-new task WIZE hasn't touched yet today counts against the limit.
- **Chatting with WIZE doesn't count.** The limit applies only to autonomous task work — you can keep chatting for help even after you've hit it for the day.

## Constraints to know

- **You can't open a task back into the chat that created it.** Tasks are independent records. Any new chat can look up and work on a task.
- **Tasks don't link to documents directly.** To reference a document from a task, paste its URL into the task description.
